What Is Grok Bot? SpaceXAI’s Always-On AI Agent, Explained

On 11 August 2026, SpaceXAI (formerly xAI, now merged into SpaceX) pushed Grok Bot into public beta. The announcement avoids the word “assistant” on purpose: a Bot is framed as an AI teammate that takes a task, works through it on its own, and comes back with finished work. How Grok Bot works

Three building blocks separate it from an ordinary chatbot:

The convenience has a clear price. Your credentials and working data live on a VM in the vendor’s cloud, and at launch the three questions that matter were left to future documentation: how credentials are stored, how a bot’s permissions can be scoped, and how the shared VM is isolated.

For personal use, that is a trade-off you can choose to accept. For businesses, especially in the EU, it is more: an agent holding your logins effectively holds everything behind them, client data included. Until encryption, permission scoping and data-processing terms are documented, the sober classification is try it privately, hold off professionally. Why this launch matters anyway

Grok Bot is less than two weeks old, untested by independents, and sold only inside subscriptions, and it is still the most important product news of the month. For the first time, a major vendor sells what open-source projects have been demonstrating for months as a finished consumer product: an agent that runs continuously and works autonomously. That sets the bar for convenience and raises the pressure on everyone, including the open-source camp, to answer the data-control question properly.
